EAST COAST CHALLENGE

NumberSix's new ride.
"ROVER"
We'll keep you posted as progress is made, but this is what he had to start with.

This is what I had to start with.  It had been seriously abused and had been in a fire.

Initial mock up

This picture shows 5/8" axle in place with 3" spacers on the outside of the frame work to keep the rear axle in place.

Here you see the up graded bearings are in place and 5/8" axle is threaded.  Axle had to be emery papered to allow new bearings to slide over easily.  A 1/2" needs to be nipped off the ends of the axle before drilling for cotter key.

Today I found a seat for my IGR that I think will work really well.  I went to our local "You-Pull-It" junk yard and was wondering what the heck I was going to use for a seat.  I looked at a couple of riding mowers but wasn't impressed.  Then I saw a couple of old airplane tractors with a seat that I believe will be perfect.

Being an open vehicle, time and the elements have taken its toll on the ply wood cushion supports.  Time to replace them.

Had some OSB board kicking around sooooo.  Using the old board as a template I cut, grind and drilled the two peaces needed for the job.  I also made sure the elements won't do the same to the new board, so I painted both sides before I reassemble the seat.

In this shot you see I cut an inch out of the right side arm rest as it was longer then the left and made the seat set crooked.

A shot looking forward.  Rover's coming together pretty good.  Seat installation is important and where I have it my legs won't be bent with my knees under my chin.  Steering column my need to be extended a little.

Seat cushion reduction.  Bread anyone?  Maybe not.  Looks a bit moldy.

A shot looking from the rear.  To the left of the kart you can see the scrub break pads being prepared for installation.
