M.I.S.F.I.T.S. CHAMPIONSHIP POINTS SYSTEM The Championship Points system
has changed for 2010!!!!!
The points system to determine the season championship
shall be as follows;
For
races with 10 starters or less;
First
Place
10 points Second Place
9 points Third Place
8 points Fourth Place
7 points Fifth Place
6 points Sixth Place
5 points Seventh place
4 points Eighth Place
3 points Ninth Place
2 points Tenth Place
1 point
For races with more then 10 starters, the points system
will be an inversion of the number of starters to the points awarded for each finishing position.
For example, if we have 12 starters, the winner of the race
will receive 12 points, 2nd place will receive 11 points, 3rd 10 points, etc. until the 12th finisher receives 1 point.
These points are based on the number of STARTERS for the race,
and NOT on the number of finishers. So if we have 12 starters and only 6 finishers, the winner of the race will still
receive 12 points.
In order
to be considered a finisher, and be awarded points, your car MUST cross the finish line under it's own gravity power with
you driving it. Pushing it, wheel chairing it, or assistance from spectators will result in disqualification.
If you do not finish, you will not receive points for that race.
NO POINTS WILL BE AWARDED FOR ANY RACE UNTIL ALL PROTESTS HAVE BEEN SETTLED. Once the points are posted, they are
final!
Race #1 Opening Day 2010
Race #1 of the 2010 Championship
racing Series is now in the record books. Unusually heavy torrential rains fell in the area for several
days before the race, right up until very late Saturday night. This made it a very unpleasant task of getting
all the cars ready to go as we do all our car work outside.
We had commitments from drivers
for ALL the loaner cars for this race and had a few thinking about going on the waiting list. So we had
a lot of work to do as the heavy snows of the winter had kept us from doing any work on the cars.
One thing we wanted to do was to upgrade the brakes on all the loaner cars. We
made up fixtures to be able to mount the Azusa drum brakes to the less expensive Harbor Freight wheels which we had used on
the rear of all the cars when we started. When we fit those wheels with better bearings and better tires,
we have a very good wheel/tire package at an affordable price. And now with the capability of adding the
drum brakes, this set up is a very good way to go without spending a fortune for a wheel/tire/brake package.
White Lightning is now fitted with 5inch drum brakes on the rear and the scrub brakes have been converted
over to a hand operated lever. This is the same set up we used on Jola’s Roller, Nasty Neal’s
car and Drscope’s car (although Drscope has the drums mounted on the front wheels).
Blue By You was also fitted with drum brakes, but time and a lack of parts in stock, did not allow us
to finish the installation. We were able to convert the scrubs brakes over to foot and hand operation,
and it won’t take long to complete the installation of the drum brakes.
The DW1386X was also resurrected! This car had been sitting in a destroyed state since it was
involved in the big crash in the October 2009 race. The frame had been badly bent and twisted, but with
the help of a come-along and some persuading, we were able to get the frame back into shape.
Once it was straight, we fitted the old Hot Rod body frame that had been run on Drscope’s car for
a few races last year, to the DW1386X. Then it was also fitted with a roll bar, side impact protection
and a five point driver restraint harness. We were able to convert the scrub brakes over to hand and foot
operation. Parts have been ordered to also mount the 5 inch drums to the rear of the DW1386X.
So by Race #2, we should have all of the original 6 cars fitted with roll bars, side impact protection,
5 point driver restraint harnesses, drum brakes and scrub brakes.
In
addition to trying to get all the cars ready to go, The Jerm was working feverishly to complete work on his new car, the Weekend
Warrior. While there was no hope of getting it completely finished, he wanted to get it far enough
along to be able to run it on Sunday.
The Jerm, Ice Man Brice and Drscope worked
late into the night and with the time change to Daylight Savings time, it was 3AM before they had all the cars on the trailer
and headed off for a little sleep.
During the early morning hours, the rain
stopped and the skies began to clear. The roads were still wet and on the race course, we had running water
in several places to contend with as well as new pot holes and a lot of debris washed on the roads from the unrelenting rains
of the previous days.
Partly due to the heavy rain and flood warnings, we had
3 drivers back out and not show for race morning. We also had one who was over worked and too exhausted
to make it, and another who was out of town on business.
So come race morning, we only had half
the field we had expected with 5 drivers taking the start.
With the call to “Release the Brakes”,
Jola’s Roller rolled out in front with Ice Man Brice on White Lightning right behind. Farther back,
Drscope was gaining speed, then came the two light weight cars of Jolly Roger and The Jerm on his new car which was very slow
getting rolling.
Approaching turn one, Jolla’s roller slowed when
she touched the brakes unsure of the wet road conditions. Ice Man Brice was able to sling shot past on
the inside of the turn for the lead. Then just 3 or 4 seconds latter, Drscope was also able to shoot past
Jola’s Roller for second.
As the 3 lead cars were entering Dead
Man’s Curve, Jolly Roger and The Jerm were just coming through turn one. The distance between the
two cars was just starting to close.
Drscope was really gaining speed now and
as Ice Man Brice negotiated Dead Man’s Curve, Drscope was able to go around him on the outside for the lead and headed
for the steep section of the course.
As Jolly Roger and The Jerm came into
Dead Man’s Curve, The Jerm went wide for the pass and led Jolly Roger down the steep section.
Drscope used every available inch of road to take his first victory of the season. Ice
Man Brice rolled into second with Jola’s Roller really gaining speed, but the finish was just too short for her to make
the pass and she crossed the line just a half a second behind him for third.
The Jerm was just able to hold off Jolly Roger for fourth with just 10 feet separating the two cars at the finish.

#2 Apollo 40 We had 7 racers show for Race #2 of the 2010 Championship Racing
Series. The Mosquito and Taz returned to racing
for this event, but we got word that Nasty Neal may no longer be racing with us because of work obligations. We'll keep
his car ready to go just in case! This was a new untested hill we were running
for the first time. Just 3/4 of a mile with a drop of 265 feet. At the start,
Jola's Roller pulled out in front and just disappeared from view! The rest of the racers struggled for position as we slowly got underway. We had only just given the "RELEASE THE BRAKES" command when a police cruiser came up the hill and passed
us by. I'm sure this wasn't something he was expecting to see early on a beautiful Sunday morning. We also surprised
a neighbor or two who had come out to get the morning paper. The front row of Jola's
Roller, The Jerm on his new light weight car Weekend Warrior, and Taz driving the DW1386X must of had a bit of an incline
advantage, as all 3 cars rolled off very well at the start. The next row of Ice Man,
driving White Lightning, Drscope in the Wedge of Doom and The Mosquito on Blue By You, as well as Jolly Roger at
the rear of the field had a much more difficult time getting rolling. At the finish,
It was Jola's Roller with a 9 second lead over the rest of the field for her FIRST win! It will be interesting to see
how she does from here! This finish moved her into second place for the championship, just 1 point behind Drscope. More to come latter.

(0 0) RACE #3 THANKS MOM!
6 eager racers showed up early
on Mother's Day for race #3. Nasty Neal, who had been suffering from the Curse of Bad Luck, was not able
to make it because of work commitments. Jolly Roger fell victim of the high winds the night before
when his power went out and he didn’t wake up in time to make the race. Last year, it was Nasty Neal
who had the curse and over slept for this race. And
Rexy Mingo had other obligations again which kept him from the competition.
At the Card Draw, The Jerm drew starting
spot #1 with Ice man and Taz sharing the front row. The Mosquito, Jolla’s Roller and Drscope made
up the second row. On the command to release the brake, the field started rolling away just fine, with the exception
of The Jerm. His new car rolled off very slowly and we later discovered he had a flat rear tire –
The SAME curse that had plagued Nasty Neal last August! Ice Man rolled out in front on White lightning
with Taz just behind in the DW1386X. The Mosquito came from the back row to pass Taz and challenge Ice
Man. The field strung out with Drscope (who had forgotten to turn on his cameras) getting caught
up behind The Jerm and having to wait to get clear and move to the left colliding with Jola’s Roller as he did so. As the field began to get up to speed, Drscope moved far left almost into the woods to pass Jola’s Roller.
Jola’s Roller fell in behind Drscope and they passed the field and took off down the hill. At
the finish, it was drscope first across the line with Jola’s Roller close behind. Then came the Mosquito
holding off Ice Man and Taz. The Jerm rolled in for a disappointing run on his flat tire. Last
year he had a rear axle come loose on this hill. Taz’s car was having handling issues and we latter
discovered that an axle spacer had been left out when the car was worked on the day before! So he had a
wheel that was so loose, the bearing was able to walk out of the hub. This caused the wheel to wobble and
vibrate violently. That force was transferred to Taz as he tried to brake and he suffered a lot of pain
as his leg was violently banged against the steering wheel repeatedly.
It was latter over heard that Nasty
Neal’s Curse of the loose wheel had struck Taz, just not bad enough for the wheel to come off the car! So
now we wonder since the curse seems to have disbursed and hit many other drivers, will Nasty Neal return to the competition?
Stay tuned to find out!

RACE #4 GRAVITY
PLEASURE
June 13, 1884.
The world’s first roller coaster opened on this day in 1884 at Coney Island, Brooklyn, NY. Built and later patented
by LaMarcus Thompson, the “Gravity Pleasure Switchback Railway” boasted two parallel 600-foot tracks that descended
from 50 feet. The cars traveled at six miles per hour. Riders paid five cents each for their rides. The roller coaster was
a sensation, and soon amusement parks all over the US and the world featured them. So to Honor the invention of the Roller Coaster, we gathered at the top of an appropriate, new, untested, never before
run hill. This was going to be a nice run, 1.25 miles long with a 520 foot drop. Smooth pavement and nice flowing
corners with some nice elevation changes were sure to keep things intersting. We had 7 starters for this event as The
Jerm and Ice Man were both away travelling. At the start, Jola's Roller came from the second row to take a commanding lead with Drscope a strong
second. Nasty Neal was a little farther back in third and gaining speed rapidly. Then it was Mr. Timmy followed
by The Mosquito, Chris and Jolly Roger. As they approached the first
big turn, Jola's Roller braked and Drscope was able to pull along side. Nasty Neal closed the gap and was right behind
the 2 lead cars. Down the steep section they went. On the flat
section near the bottom of the hill, Drscope's mirrors were full of Nasty Neal. Drscope was doing everything he could
to drive defensibly and keep Nasty Neal behind. As they jockeyed
for position, Nasty Neal pulled along side Drscope and was able to find his way through and pull along side Jola's Roller. With the finish cone in sight, Nasty Neal was right alongside Jola's Roller and just
slightly pulling ahead. At the finish, it was Nasty Neal in the indestructable Monte Carlo by less then 3 feet
with Jola's Roller second, and Drscope in the Wedge of Doom third. Chris was fourth on White Lightning with The Mosquito Fifth driving Blue By You.
Mr Timmy driving the DW1386X was sixth and Jolly Roger was seventh.
